Licensure Requirements for a Salesperson

  • Must prove that you are lawfully present in the U.S.
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Must not have had a real estate license denied within the past year
  • Must not have had a real estate license revoked within the past two years
  • Complete an approved pre-license education course (in-person or online) of at least 90 hours and pass the corresponding final exam (Must apply for license within 10 years of course completion)
  • Pass the salesperson exam
  • Fingerprinting
  • Apply for license within one year of passing the exam

Licensure Requirements for a Broker

  • Must prove that you are lawfully present in the U.S.
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Must not have had a real estate license denied within the past year
  • Must not have had a real estate license revoked within the past two years
  • Complete an approved broker pre-license education course of at least 90 hours and pass the corresponding final exam (Must apply for license within 10 years of course completion)
  • Must have spent at least 3 of the previous 5 years as a licensed salesperson or broker
  • Pass the broker exam
  • Apply for license within one year of passing the exam

Step by Step Guide (Salesperson)

  1. Complete an approved 90-hour pre-license course and pass corresponding final exam (Find an Approved School)
  2. Pass the salesperson exam (See below for more information)
  3. Obtain Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety 
  4. Apply for license within one year of passing the exam (Application and Instructions). For more information, check out the Original Licensing Brochure 
  5. Complete an approved 6-hour Arizona Contract Writing Course prior to receiving license

Step by Step Guide (Broker)

  1. Complete an approved 90-hour broker pre-license course and pass corresponding final exam (Find an Approved School)
  2. Pass the broker exam (See below for more information)
  3. Have your current employing broker fill out a Broker Candidate Experience Verification Form
  4. Apply for license within one year of passing the exam (Application and Instructions). For more information, check out the Original Licensing Brochure
  5. Complete the 9-hour Arizona Broker Management Clinic prior to receiving license

Exam Info

Salesperson: The exam costs $75 and will be administered on a computer in multiple choice format. There are 180 scored questions and 15 pre-test questions that do not affect your score. 

There is no distinction made between scored questions and pre-test questions on the exam. They are all mixed in together, so it is important that you answer each question carefully. You must achieve a score of 75% or higher to pass. You will have 5 hours to complete the exam.

Broker: The exam costs $125 and will be administered on a computer in multiple choice format. There are 180 scored questions and 15 pre-test questions that do not affect your score. 

There is no distinction made between scored questions and pre-test questions on the exam. They are all mixed in together, so it is important that you answer each question carefully. You must achieve a score of 75% or higher to pass. You will have 5 hours and 15 minutes to complete the exam.
